Knowing Other People’s Stories: Empathy, Illness and Identity

Knowing Other People’s Stories: Empathy, Illness and Identity

Produced by Briana Spangler

“Arthur Frank, a Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Calgary University offers a thoughtful and insightful lecture exploring the ‘trouble with empathy.’ He asks, ‘How do we offer support and in this case condolence to someone when we can’t possibly know what they actually feel like. That’s the issue I want to address this evening.’¬†Arthur reminds us that no story stands alone, but can and should be contextualized in a whole narrative history.

Please note that there are a few audio issues in this program.”

Take Another Look: Three short films capturing the lives of local senior citizens

Take Another Look: Three short films capturing the lives of local senior citizens

Produced by CATV youth filmmakers: Allegra Harvard, Clare Swanson, Jack Spinella

The Take Another Look project was a collaboration between several vital local organizations with one goal: to give local seniors a voice. Filmed by high school producers, these interviews open the viewers eyes to the realities of the aging process. What’s also really neat about this project, is that the data gathered through this process, will be available to other organizations including senior centers and hospitals.”
